Lego walking dragline progress report.

The past few days have been all about bearings: I added the top surfaces for the two slewing rings.
In order to get a truly smooth surface, I had two options:
  1. Build a large area made of bricks mounted on their sides.
  2. Use some tiles mounted up side down.

I picked number two because I think it will result in a lower profile and lighter construction. The finished surface is less than a brick thick (two plates plus one tile). It is very colorful because once the machine is finished, it will not be visible. This, by the way, is why the inside of the tub is yellow...

Please note that the plates on which the minifigs are standing on in the pictures are temporary spacers that will be removed once the main structure of the upper works is built.

Now I have to take a break from construction to spend some time taking appart my previous crane. I don't know how it will take to bring myself to do such a thing...
