The Maximod works!
I have the movie to prove it here.
Up until today I was under the impression that the boiler that came with my Stuard D10 steam engine was insufficient for this locomotive. So what changed, you might ask?
Well today I decided to run the Maximod anyway, just pulling a couple of cars, with no human load. At first it ran badly and by the time I decided to check the gas jet, I had used quite a bit of water (about one quarter of the water glass level). Sure enough, there was an obstruction in the gas jet. Once cleared, I found the engine to be very lively, so I decided to "hop on board", at least until I hit the big (2%) grade. To my great surprise, it did not stop at the bottom of the grade as it used to, but instead kept going up at a nice pace! I did a total of 7 or 8 laps without trouble until some screw in the steam engine became loose and jammed it! After a quick field fix, I try running again but the same condition appaered again, so I decided to call it a day. The engine will get a complete overall and critical screws will get some thread locker to prevent a repeat of today's problem.
