May 2010, a large crate arrived at Eric's work.
Inside
The locomotive is 4 3/4" gauge. It has spring suspension, two motors, gear drive and electronic control.
The other side if the locomotive. Soda can for scale. These locomotives are made by Accucraft for Maxitrak.
A nice little detail is the builders plates made from etched brass
The side frame details are actually cast resin parts that are purely cosmetic. There is a metal air tank on the running board.
There is an exhaust muffler on top of the hood. It is made from machined brass.
The nice dual coupler pockets are milled from steel. The Accucraft serial number is stuck in the top pocket.
The radiator is actually a large cast resin piece. The Planet name plate and radiator cap are brass parts. There is a guard in front of the radiator.
There are nice rivet details and grabirions-- the cab and bonnet are bordered by cream colored lining.
There is a battery box detail on one side of the bonnet.
The locomotive has twin air horn details. These are machined from brass.
In the cab is all business. From right to left: gray knob is the throttle, brake switch, reversing switch and horn.
The electronics are mounted behind the control panel. To the left of the circuit board you can make out the horn. It seems like they used a motorcycle horn or something.
The bonnet is secured with four screws. It is removable to access the battery compartment.
The first modification Eric made was to add these black plastic strips that hold the bonnet at the correct height to install the four screws.
Checking how the Planet looks with my newest piece of rolling stock. The oil drums are a 1:6 scale military accessory. They are made from real steel.
The Planet and the flat car work well together.
The beginnings of a nice 4 3/4" gauge train.
The locomotive is masked so the end beams can be painted black.
