Modifying a Manfrotto Befree tripod

The modified tripod: the head is right on top of the base.

I also made this adapter which allows me to mount the head form my larger tripod on the Befree. That head has a nice pan and tilt which are great for taking pictures of the moon or the sun with my 800 mm lens.
Original tripod: the head is well above the base and therefore less stable. In order for the tripod to achieve its smallest size, the legs have to be folded 180 degrees which sounded good to me until I used it a few times... It's a very awkward series of manipulations. I'd rather have a shorter tripod that is quick to set up.
